Does anyone on here know anything about this treatment and if it works. I have been to see a Doctor about this and he said they have already treated a Patient with IBM ?

Stem cell therapy
Hi Pariswhite, just happened on this podcast (can listen to) on stem cell treatment from a research doctor in the States, Univ of Washington, Seattle. He is being interviwed and this podcast is on National Childrens Hospital, Columbus Ohio website, google it and then select the research page and they do a monthly podcast and also the written abstract is there.....very interesting...if you can understand all of it. Basically the summary is that stem cell treatment for all muscular dystrophies is probably 20 years away to the patient, however gene therapies are much nearer.....so here's hoping! Also good comment on people who charge for so called stem cell therapies now....in his opinion are fraudulent! David

Re: Stem Cell Treatment
The Charity has recently funded a project in stem cell research. A full report will be in the next newsletter but briefly the project supported from this grant will be used to support an ongoing research programme focusing on stimulating muscle regeneration using stem cell secretions. This programme is a collaboration between research and development teams at Natural Biosciences and the University of Reading. Specifically, this funding will investigate the effectiveness of fat derived stem cell secretions on stimulating muscle specific stem cell activity to regrow and repair muscle tissue. The funding for this project was raised by one of our members specifically for this purpose. - Irene Oakley, Charity Co-ordinator

Re: Stem Cell Treatment
Hi pariswhite, I haven't heard of any stem cell research for sIBM, but would be interested in hearing some details if you can get them. There was a lady in the States that was having something like this but I believe she also had cancer. Maybe you have heard of the Follistatin trial in the States which is gene therapy, injections directly into the quadriceps, it seems to have got bogged down and not too much info on it. David
