Payroll
Giving is important to the Myositis Support Group as it provides a
regular and reliable income allowing us to plan ahead.
Payroll Giving is an
easy, tax-effective way to give, so it costs you less to give more.
Payroll Giving schemes are run by the employer
and are very simple to do. If your employer does not already have
a Payroll Giving scheme in place, don’t worry – it’s
quick and easy to set up. Employers simply sign a contract with
a Payroll
Giving Agency who will transmit donations on their
behalf. Whether you are an employee or employer please visit the
Payroll
Giving Centre for further information. The Payroll
Giving Centre is a comprehensive online information centre about
Payroll Giving aimed at businesses, charities and the general public.
This site hosts free guidance materials, promotional literature
and useful links to help you make the most of Payroll Giving.
To join a Payroll Giving scheme (providing one
is in place by your employer) contact your Personnel or Payroll
department for a Payroll Giving Application form. On the form you
decide how much you wish to give as a regular charitable donation
and this will be deducted from your gross pay before tax. An example
of this simple application form is available from the Payroll Giving
Centre. Your employer will forward your completed form to a Payroll
Giving Agency and your donation will be forwarded monthly to the
Agency and they then distribute the gift each month to the charity
or charities of your choice.
All Payroll Giving Agencies are registered charities
and they make no profit from administering Payroll Giving donations
although a small administration cost may be incurred.
Payroll Giving Agencies do not automatically
inform us when you become a Payroll Giver so you might wish to let
us know.
| Give to the Myositis Support
Group from your pay and you can get immediate tax relief of
up to £4 for every £10 donated. For example a donation
worth £10 to the Myositis Support Group will require a
basic rate taxpayer (22%) to donate just £7.80 and a higher
rate taxpayer (40%) will only need to donate £6. You will
not pay any tax on the donation you make. If
you donate £5 a month to the Myositis Support Group
through Payroll Giving this will actually equate to £6.41
and over a year this will be £76.92 -over £16
more than if you had just made a donation of £60!
