Fundraising

There are many ways which you can help us raise funds.

We hold three key fundraisers for our members to support each year;

These three fundraising activities contribute on average to 20-25% of the charity’s income each year.

You can also help raise funds by using our BuyAt Webshop for your online shopping, Everyclick as your search engine, and returning used printer cartridges for recycling. If you have goods to sell on eBAY you can donate some or all of the selling price. We also have Myositis Support Group merchandise for you to purchase and free money boxes for collecting loose change.

If you would like to organise your own fundraising event we can support your effort, see Ideas for Fundraising for more details.

London Marathon

Each year we have been fortunate to have at least one runner in the London Marathon. We are currently on a waiting list for guaranteed places so rely on our runner(s) obtaining their place themselves through the public ballot. James Borrett and Mick Clarke who ran for the Support Group this year both obtained their places through the Public Ballot. James wearing number 3329 completed his run in 3hrs 24mins and Mick wearing 33639 finished in 6hrs 42mins. Sponsorship money is still coming into the office and James himself through his JustGiving Page has raised over £2217. Confirmation and details of split times can be found on the Official London Marathon Website.

If you have a ballot place for the next London Marathon (2009) and would like to run on behalf of the Myositis Support Group please let us know. The London Marathon organisers have released some guaranteed places to charities called Silver Bonds and we have been awarded one of these for next years run. Silver Bonds are a one off guaranteed place and only one can be awarded every 5 years. Our Silver Bond runner will be named shortly and you can keep up to date with their training and fundraising by following their blog.

Grand Summer Draw

Each year we hold a Grand Summer Draw. This year’s draw will take place in September. Grand Summer Draw tickets are sent in the post to UK members in June/July for purchase. Tickets are 50p and there are five tickets to a book. We have three cash prizes (1st £500, 2nd £100, 3rd £100) and many other attractive prizes donated by companies and individuals. If you would like to be sent Grand Summer Draw tickets or wish to donate a prize please contact us.

Christmas Cards

Our charity Christmas cards go on sale from September. We have a choice of designs and come in 10 cards per pack. To order cards please return the order form to us by post with a cheque made payable to the Myositis Support Group. Due to postal costs we can only send purchased cards to UK addresses. If you are overseas and would like to order our cards please contact us prior to placing your request and we will calculate the additional postage cost.

Money Boxes

Many pennies make pounds! Requests from members led us to produce our own money boxes for small change collection. Please contact us for a money box. Details on how to pay in the money collected are on the box. We can send a certificate of thanks for collecting and these are particularly popular amongst our young supporters and for display in places of work, pubs etc.

Used Printer Cartridges

Used printer cartridges and old mobile phones can be recycled and in doing so raise money. We have Reply Paid Envelopes and dispenser boxes available free of charge. Please contact us if you would like to help us in our recycling scheme.

Buy At Webshop

If you shop online please do it through the Myositis Support Group Webshop because every time you use our webshop to go to a retailer’s web site and subsequently buy something, you’ll automatically earn commission for us! You won’t pay anything extra by using our webshop but you must go via it for the charity to benefit.

This is a really simple way to raise funds as it doesn’t incur any additional cost or require any effort! It’s fast, safe and hassle free but don’t just take our word for it visit www.buy.at/myositis and see for yourself!

During our first six months over £150 was raised in commission through sales. Our webshop is a popular place to shop online as it has over 100 retailers including Marks & Spencer, John Lewis, Amazon, HMV and Tesco.

You can help raise awareness of the Webshop by letting your family, friends and work colleagues know of it. We can supply posters and leaflets, just drop us a line and we will get these mailed out to you. Alternatively these can be downloaded: Myositis BuyAt leaflet, Myositis BuyAt Poster.

This is a brilliant idea, and I hope people will use it.” - Maggie Hall who advertises the BuyAt webshop at her place of work.

I told all my colleagues in the office about your webshop in November, they all did their Christmas shopping through your webshop, there were great offers and it was fuss free.” – Les Brown

Everyclick Search Engine

Everyclick.com works just like any other search engine with one difference every time you perform a search money is raised for the Myositis Support Group. It's a great way to help us raise funds and doesn't cost you a penny!

Visit: www.everyclick.com/myositissupportgroup to register and select Myositis Support Group as the charity to benefit from your internet searches and that's it! Please give it a go and if you like it as much as we do - pass the message on!

"I have joined Everyclick and find it as good as Google, so thanks for this tip," - Simon Millyard

eBay

You can raise funds for the Myositis Support Group while selling on eBay. It is easy to do and you can choose how much to donate to us (between 10% and 100% of your item's final selling price), and your listing will be marked with the special blue and yellow ribbon, making it really stand out!

Buyers can easily search for charity items both on the main site and on the eBay for Charity page. This can mean more bids and even more selling success! After your item sells, your donation will be paid directly into the Myositis Support Group bank account, along with Gift Aid (if you've ticked the box) and an eBay fee donation. The really good news is that, although it will require a little leg-work up front to get you up and running, once you're registered it requires little extra effort. You just tick the charity box when you're listing, choose the percentage of your final sale price you want to donate and choose the Myositis Support Group as the charity, and the rest is taken care for you.

Selling for charity is like selling anything on eBay - but with one additional twist; you need to register with MissionFish, the UK charity partnered to eBay. MissionFish does all the back-end work to make sure your donation reaches the Myositis Support Group. Once your item sells, you're then able to pay your donation directly through your MissionFish account, or - if you prefer - MissionFish can take it directly from your credit card. Selling through eBay and MissionFish is like doing a car boot sale at your leisure! Interested? Visit www.missionfish.org to get started.

The Myositis Support Group has made a Fundraising Promise commissioned by the Fundraising Standards Board to ensure its fundraising activities are open and fair.
