Have you heard about the 2.6 Challenge? This national fundraising effort is launching on Sunday 26 April to help save the UK’s charities just like Myositis UK. How will you take part?
On Sunday 26 April, Myositis UK should have been in St James’ Park setting up the supporter station for our nine super runners taking on the Virgin London Marathon.
However, the outbreak of coronavirus (Covid-19) has led to the cancellation of thousands of fundraising events including the London Marathon, and the loss of billions of fundraising income for UK charities.
This is a huge blow for charities like Myositis UK as we rely on donations and fundraising to sustain the charity and fund vital research. The London Marathon is our biggest fundraising event and this year our runners had hoped to bring in over £10,000 in the fight against rare muscle disease.
However, hope is not lost. To help charities weather the storm, the organisers of the Virgin London Marathon have come up with the 2.6 Challenge as a way for people to support their most-loved UK charities.
It’s a fun and easy way to support the work of Myositis UK in a social-distancing, lockdown-friendly way.
How the 2.6 challenge works
Across the country, people of all ages are taking on the 2.6 Challenge with a host of activities. From taking your dog on a 2.6 mile walk to juggling for 2.6 minutes. The ideas and options are endless!
All you have to do is use the number 2.6 or 26 as inspiration and come up with an activity that uses your skills and expertise. The only requirement is that you must follow Government guidelines on exercise and social distancing.
Through JustGiving, you can then either create a page to fundraise for your challenge or make a donation directly when the challenge is complete.
Most people are taking part in the 2.6 Challenge from Sunday 26 April but you can do your activity whenever is most convenient for you.
You can also nominate friends and family to get involved too. Together all your small ‘events’ and challenges will make a really big difference.
Don’t forget to let us know if you intend to take part. You can also share photos or videos of your challenge on social media by tagging Myositis UK and using the hashtag #TwoPointSixChallenge. We can’t wait to see what you get up to!
Thank you in advance
We know many of you within the myositis community are currently shielding but we are confident there will be those eager and able to safely take part and help secure part of the charity’s income for this year.
With your support, Myositis UK can continue to provide information to those affected by myositis and fund research to improve diagnosis and treatment.
