Coronavirus update from Myositis UK

Due to the outbreak of coronavirus (Covid-19) worldwide, Myositis UK wanted to update members on the impact this will have on two of our key activities this year: the Virgin Money London Marathon and the AGM and conference.

London Marathon 2020

In light of the spread of coronavirus in the UK, the Virgin Money London Marathon has been postponed to Sunday 4 October. All our runners have been informed and made aware of the options available to them.

We recognise this will be disappointing news after months of training and fundraising. We want to thank our runners for all their efforts to date and hope they will still be able to run for us later on in the year.

As many of you will know, the London Marathon is a key fundraiser for Myositis UK and we had hoped to have a record number of people running as part of Team Muscle this year. Our fingers are crossed for October.

AGM and Conference

This year’s Myositis UK conference has been cancelled. It was due to take place on Sunday 14 June at the Oxford Spires Hotel in Oxford.

This decision was taken to ensure the health, wellbeing and safety of our members, speakers and volunteers.

The good news is we will be holding the conference at the same venue in June 2021. We hope to hold an AGM later on in this year, as required by the Charity Commission.

For members who have already received booking details for the conference through the post, we kindly ask that you discard them. Unfortunately these were posted before the situation in the UK deteriorated. Those who do return forms will be emailed directly explaining the decision that has been made.

Stay safe, stay well

For more information on living with myositis during the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak, see our new dedicated coronavirus and myositis information page which will be updated regularly.

We hope that all our members are keeping safe and well, wherever you are. We know how difficult it can be living with myositis at the best of times. We encourage you to stay positive and keep in touch with the myositis community through Facebook and the community zone.
